The Teaching for Learning programme took the CDRSEEs expansive experience, knowledge and skills in the history education sector and broadened the reach to all subjects. The foundation of the project, which took place between 2012-2013, was a needs based assessment that was conducted in Southeast Europe, in which the missing link between education policies and real-life requirements were often highlighted. Together with renowned cognitive psychologist Professor Lorin Anderson, the CDRSEE embarked on producing a toolkit for educators, who are the CDRSEE regards as key agents of change, preparing the younger generations to become self-sufficient learns in a knowledge-based society. Teachers, through consistency in their own work can be a driving force behind closing the education reform gap. The reference guide, titled ‘Teaching for Learning’, was an international project, bringing together experts in pedagogy and psychology from across Southeast Europe and beyond. The manual provides not only the latest teaching methods, but also the evidence and reasoning behind them and practical ideals for in-class application. Reviews by teachers and academia have been stellar.
With the book as a base, the Teaching for Learning project provided training sessions for teachers, curriculum developers and inspectors in Southeast Europe. The dire economic performance seen in recent years throughout the region, high unemployment and low innovation rates, has created a fertile ground for reform in the education sector. As regional scores on the standard PISA tests ranked consistently below international levels, there was, and still is, an eagerness to catch up with the international trends in educations.
The CDRSEE has established solid relationships with education ministries around the region and with top academia worldwide. This project won the support of local stakeholders, those who strive to bring quality education standards to their schools.
